Are you investing to build long-term wealth?
When we talk with prospective clients, we often hear statements like “I don’t know how to invest my savings” or “I don’t want to have to think about it.” It’s certainly understandable because investing is complex and the financial news creates confusion because it’s in the business of selling advertising, not building long-term wealth for its readers.
Investing well requires knowledge and discipline. Maple Street brings both to it’s wealth management process in Chicago.
We have three overriding beliefs about investing.
- Own high quality businesses to generate long-term wealth
- Maintain adequate liquidity
- Invest for the long-haul
High quality businesses are profitable and durable. They earn attractive returns on their capital and benefit from competitive advantages that allow them to maintain profitability and grow over time.
Maintaining an adequate cash balance provides resilience to the individual by providing staying power to survive – and even thrive – during difficult periods.
A long-term outlook is necessary to benefit from the wealth creation generated by high quality companies. The mindset allows the investor to buy (or at least hold) when prices are going down, not for higher returns next week or next quarter, but years down the road.
